My Opinions Writing

Parents, student, and faculty will always have different opinions over school dress code. I'm in the ninth grade and I have notice this has become a problem over the last few years. I think schools should always have some form of dress code.

Dress codes are something most students aren't for. The past few years, as I have gotten older, I have notice that students have more inappropriate clothes that show content that is unexceptable. I personally don't want to walk around Bowie High School seeing ladies body parts hanging out and same for gentlemen. All people should have respectable clothing.

This is school, a place to learn. I don't know why people think they have to dress like they're 20. Many students say that they dress nice because they want to impress people. My thought is that if you are trying this hard to impress someone, they're not worth it. Students should dress their age.  Don't come to school in something that your parents or grandparents wouldn't like you wearing.

That brings up parents thoughts. I know that my parents hate when they see kids showing too much off.  I have a feeling that many parents are like mine. Many parents they grew up taught to dress modest want there kids to do the same.

I was in the situation in 4th grade when the elementary school I went to change the dress code.  The school faculty was all for the new uniformed dress code. All parents got an email, showing about the new change and wether they were for or against it. The students also talked about it, many of them didn't want the dress code to change.

Even in the forth grade I thought that the school should have changed the dress code. This could have caused less kids being sent to the office for inappropriate clothes. This could help every student look less inappropriate.

Having a dress code could help the office and faculty. If everyone had a stricter code you wouldn't have to deal with anything inappropriate and student having to call the family to bring them other clothes. Students would feel attacked or put down because their clothing choice.

I think people would prefer to to wear their own clothes, but I think there would be less problems if people all had a stricter code. So if its really a big problem there should be more cracking down on the rules.

Student Of the Month Story

Who - Tyrone Wakins
What - student of the month
Where - James Bowie high school
When - the month of April 2017
How - Outstanding grades and perfect attendance

Why -Teachers voted on one student who they thought projected good behavior and had good grades and attendance.

Story on the event:

The new month of April, Bowie has selected a new student of the month. Never getting this award before, Tyrone Wakins, a sophomore, was nominated to be the newest student of the month. The Bowie High School teachers nominated Tyrone because of his high attendance and good grades.
This award is given every month to an outstanding student. It not easy to receive student of the month. Tyrone is a straight A student, plays basketball in his free time and is a very talkative, helpful young man. He deserves this award because he is always dedicating his time to school, sports, and his outstanding grades.
Getting this award seems really challenging, and seems like all you have to do is work, work and work.
" Yes you always need to strive for your best, never slacking off. Keep working your butt off, it will pay in the long run."
Tyrone was constantly communicating with his teachers to keep his grades up. Tyrone's goal this year was to keep up his grades and maintain a 4.0 average, never knowing he could win this award.
" I never expected to when this award, I always just tried to do my best in school and work hard, so I can go to a good college. "
Every month a new student receives this award. Students are completely oblivious about the way to win.
"Yes very true, I had absolutely no idea that I was ineligible to win the award. For students trying to when this award I would advise that you keep up good grades, constantly communicate to your teachers in and outside of class."
To be nominated for this award your teacher has to vote for you. Most students are very surprised when they when this award.
" I was very surprised that I got this award. I was very please with my grades, but I never thought that my teachers would choose me to be the student of the month."
To win this award Tyrone had to do a lot of work. Constantly taking the time out of his day to get better and take time out of seeing your family.
" Although Im constantly doing work to get good grades, my parents are very supportive and help me learn basic life skills that school teachers don't teach. My parents were very proud when I won this award, because this could help me get into a good school."
Many students at Bowie High School set goals to achieve for the year. You hear that many students try to get good grades. There has been no student yet to have other goals, especially student of the month.
" This was not my goal this year, my goal was to raise my grades like most students. Like I said before I never expected to win Student Of The Month."
The average GPA for a student is 3.6, many students try to raise there grades. Tyrone's GPA is a 4.5.
" I have decided that high school is the only way i can have a good life in the future. I noticed if I make good grades all four years of high school, I can get into a better college. I want to go to the University of Texas, which I have heard is very hard to get into.
" So I suggest that all student to become the best they can be, and make the best grades possible. If you do you can get into a good college and have a good future ahead of you."
This being his first time receiving an award from the school about grades, he was very surprised.
" My family and I were very surprised that I won this award. It is an accomplish and more people should try to aim for it."
His friends were just as happy for him as his family was, and a little bit jealous.
" My friends are very happy that i won this award, they told me that the thought of me winner will cause them to do better in school."

Recap
The process that went into choosing; Looked at their portfolios, deleted the bad pictures, critiqued the more better photos, and chose the best photos.

Parts 1-6

I disagree with the judges about the photo with the girl and the goose. The Judges thought it was better then it actually was i thought it wasn't very original.

I agree with the choice of the first photo of the man in a red sled. I didn't think that there was much to the picture plus it was too blurry for me.
