Magazines part 2

1.) Image Based
Is one of the most common approach to a magazine cover, there shouldn't be many people in it and there shouldn't much activity going on. Most of the time there is a celebrity on the cover to gather more sellers. These magazine covers are typically used in almost all fashion, gossip and mens magazines. The cover has to correspond with the style of the publication which means if your shooting a food magazine use food as your subject.
2.) Illustration Based
Illustration covers are drawn or generated on the computer. Usually illustration covers are used to add a different effect on the magazine to do something out of the normal. Majority of the magazine companies that use this cover don't need newsstand sales.
3.) Type Based
This approach isn't typically used but are more used than illustrated covers. The the text on the cover used most of the space and can have a powerful message or symbolism to stand out to the readers. At times they can come across as straight to the point or a funny sarcastic meaning.
4.) Concept Based
Concept covers are a variety of all the other three approaches. It is not used as much but can have a powerful symbol or message to grab the readers. It should be easily understood by the readers at least that is what you should be aiming for. This approach is mostly used in business magazines and news magazines.
